a quiet day

The monotony and solitude of a quiet life stimulates the creative mind.

Note: the gray dots are, on the actual works, holes pierced in the paper with a needle - but I couldn't get them to show up in a photograph very well so...

revisiting old friends...

Took photos today of the my small house sculptures in the light tent. Then cleaned them up and adjusted them so the lines would be the focus:

considering the past. digital collage/mixed media. 2012

I really like these. Updated and reflecting how I've changed over the years since first making the sculptures.

necklace

I finally made a light tent today that actually might work out! Took a few shots of a one of the necklaces I've made just to practice with the new setup

So much to learn...but I'm (gradually) getting there.

experiments

One of my favorite things to do is to just take an hour or two (or five or twelve!) and just play around with materials. The studio becomes a lab for all my experiments with the odds and ends of materials I've collected. I challenge myself to take common "crafty" materials and elevate them; transforming them so they will be perceived as elegant and refined.

The first image shows a prototype of an element for jewelry I made by heating up Fun Foam and pressing letter stamps into it. The second and third images are of plastic needlepoint canvas with neoprene tubing attached with waxed linen thread.

These aren't finished pieces; they'll go up on my board to inspire me to do more experiments.
