an idea...

I've been loving making my quilts each day, and I feel like I need to document a bit about each before I go too far into the process and forget. I'm up to twenty five already!

So as I can, I'll post a quilt in the order in which it was made, and describe something about how it came into being and what it says to me. I've posted a few of the quilts already, but just bear with me - we'll soon get to ones I haven't put on the blog. I think it's important to get it all down.

It's too late now tonight- I'm pooped and want to go to bed - but maybe I can start tomorrow.

Till then, cheers!

something new...

I made a new light box today out of a Sterlite plastic storage box - a big one. Tried it out when I took these photos of an idea I'm working on for a necklace. The "flower" is made of grey plastic window screening.I like that it has structure, but that it maintains a transparency and lightness. The center is an embroidered felt ball I got at the museum in Rochester NY last years - the two smaller balls are just accents for the photo.

The neck piece it made out of a semi opaque plastic tubing. I need to work out a closure...

I've continued with my quilt practice and made #12 today! They are all on the Etsy shop:

busy and then some...

Been a busy couple of days. My laptop bit the dust yesterday morning so I ran around getting a new computer. Must say, I'm loving my new iMac with it's 21.5 inch screen! Very elegant. I love it!

But having a desktop now instead of a laptop meant having to rearrange my studio to make it work. The computer is (obviously) in place now, but the studio looks like a tornado hit it. A BIG tornado.

Still managed to get my daily quilts done however. Just had to post yesterday's a day late. Truth to tell, yesterday's was actually one I had done before, but I wasn't sure I could part with it because it really spoke to me. But I'm ready to now - and it was nice that it saved me yesterday from having to make one on top of getting the new computer set up.

Here is yesterday's:

And today's:

It would seem that the desire for the return of an orderly studio was on my mind when I made today's! The stripes and colors are just what I have up here!

yesterday and today...

Today's quilt first, followed by yesterday's:

The shop with my quilts is sure getting a lot of views - and a lot of "favorites" - both for the shop and individual quilts. Does a heart good.

really?

I couldn't believe today's quilt really wanted to have that busy black and cream fabric as part of its border, but it did. And now that I see it all together and finished, I like it. Using corduroy gives such a soft feel to the surface and plays with the light. I used cream thread for one section , a subtle sub note, and black for the majority. I like the effect of using two fabrics for the border.

I quite like the compositions of the detail photos, too.

spring is in the air...and my mind

So hard to photograph this and get the colors right for some reason. (The bright blue piece on the right is really more periwinkle...the other colors are okay.) Anyway:

Now it's time to get out for a bit of sun!

today's quilt

34 years ago today Dean proposed to me and I said yes. Though not intentional, it looks our relationship came through in the quilt I made this morning. I like that our "paths" are side by side and that we're in a glowing, neon pink, patch...

a new day, a new shop, a new quilt...

I started my new practice today; a practice of making a small art quilt each and every day - preferably in the morning before things get crazy. A way to get the creative juices flowing and the creative muscles warmed and stretched.

An important part of the practice is letting go of the quilt after its finished; putting it up for sale and allowing it to become a part of someone else's life. That's a hard one for me, but one I'm ready to learn. So - that meant opening my other Etsy shop: www.karenanne.etsy.com

Here is the first quilt of what should be many - and it's already for sale in the shop:
