a thought for today...

to bridge a divide is to climb a ladder; both have the potential to lead to a better place...

and two more...

Similar expressions in yesterday's and today's quilts. I wonder where this new path will lead. What I love most about this practice is that I never know until I make the next quilt. I might have inklings and glimmerings of what could happen sometimes, but the ending is always a surprise. Not unlike life in general.

Yesterday's:

healing in the broken places. the ones that no one sees...

And today's:

i am the bridge between past and future; keeper and creator of stories and dreams...

a favorite...

Today's quilt is quite a departure from all the others I've made but it is a new favorite:

the dawn breaks as softly as the surf. my boat is ready...and so am i.

new...

Another using rug canvas:

I'll need to really flatten the canvas before trying to form the arch so the final won't be lopsided as it is here...thinking pale wood for the base.

new moon...

The "Flower Moon" hanging huge in the sky, replacing the dark of night with a brilliant glow...did you see it???

Flower Moon. Embossed shapes on cotton rag paper. 4.5" square.

piles and stacks...

It would appear that the stacks of fabric that surround me are being translated into sculpture:

The little "pillows" are made from rug canvas, wind screening, and plastic needlepoint canvas.

They are stacked an a structure that I had in my studio - part of something that broke - it's 12" tall and 3.5" wide.

This is just an idea that I'm working with - not sure yet what the final piece or series will look like, so you'll just have to keep coming back and checking!

anniversary quilt

This is the first quilt I made today - but how could I possibly put it up for sale? Today is our 34th wedding anniversary and this quilt looks so much like the two of us; each of us half of a little house happily sailing  across the seas just as we'll do when we take our trip this summer...the fabric binding it all together is what I used for slipcovers in our first home together.

Now it's time to go toast our love happy marriage with a glass of champagne!

inspiration

I had to laugh today when I looked at the quilt I made for my daily practice, because early this morning I had taken photos of some of the wonderful bracelets I've collected and they must have stayed with me...

The quilt:

And the bracelets that were the inspiration - even though I didn't consciously think that:

I am, most definitely, a sponge!
