indulgence...

indulged my love of color in this new print:

midnight sun. digital drawing. 10 x 11. 2012

i changed one of the prints i showed yesterday. i enlarged and simplified it, then embossed it with just a recessed window shape this time - i darkened it a bit here to make the embossing a bit easier to see. i'm changing the title, too, but haven't settled on the new one - have any suggestions?

new work...

shadows of the past. digital print with embossing. 12 x 16 inches. 2012

the secret language of water. digital print with embossing. 13 x 19. 2012

up down. digital print with embossing. 13 x 19. 2012

all three are derived from photographs i took in norway. all have bits of embossing that doesn't show here; house and window shapes on "shadows of the past", some wavy lines and one straight one 2/3 the way up the page on "the secret language of water", some stair step shapes and vertical lines on "up down". i'll try to photograph them later when i photograph today's quilt and see if I can get the embossing to show up...

time for lunch and then a quiet afternoon quilt-making. wonder if it will reflect this new work?we'll see!

sketches...

i took my sketchbook along with me on our cruise and really enjoyed capturing a few of the many things i saw that intrigued me. very simple pencil sketches, not very well photographed, but i thought i'd share them anyway.

leaving kristiansand, norway...the water was so smooth and the land just a wisp in the distance:

as we approached the shetland islands, i made this quick sketch with pencil and then added color with powdered eyeshadow - my browns and greens were the exact shades i saw out the window of our stateroom:

i fell in love with the little white houses on the shetland islands. each perfectly proportioned, they begged to be captured, so i complied:

i used the last one as inspiration for a large charcoal drawing that i'm considering framing for my show in august...but i think i'll do some other variations and then choose the one i like best. this is about 16 x 20 inches:

okay, that's it for today, except to say how good it feels to be back to my daily art quilt-making practice. check out today's here!

settling down....

settling down...finding my center...ready to begin.

a picture to start the day and inspire me (and you?):

the first picture i took on our cruise. a sunny table with coffee and flowers while we waited to board the MS Rotterdam.

enjoy!

i'm back!

i'm eager to get going on my daily practice again, but not at all sorry that i had to take a bit of a break. we had the most wonderful vacation; a cruise to norway and scotland on the MS Rotterdam. pictures will be forthcoming, but sewing new quilts comes first!

i've been so busy making the quilt that i never made a business card to hand out to interested people. remedied that today:

so, now that that's done (along with a new banner for the shop) i'm all set to get sewing!

oh - and i sold my first quilt and put it in the mail on saturday. i'm okay since i know it will be loved by its new owner. i look forward to sending more to new homes!

cheers,
karen anne
