a tiny seed...

i was lucky enough to have been given one of these seeds and it has a place of honor in my home. it is just one of the millions that were made by hand for an installation by chinese artist ai weiwei.

it is so hard to imagine even beginning a project like this, isn't it? simply boggles the mind. 

or my mind, anyway.

shoot. i've made only 222 quilts as of today. a mere drop in the bucket compared to all the seeds...

the seed, and ai weiwei's story came to mind when i was making today's quilt:

1.06.2013

from whence doth it come
yon snow of downy softness
feathers of angels

the fabric with the design that called to mind snowflakes, is a fabric that i won from artist julie booth.  printed by hand, it arrived in the mail last week and has been urging me to use it. the size and shape of the little designs are so similar to my teensy sunflower seed that i know the fabric will make a reappearance in the future and reference ai weiwei's work in some way. i can't predict when that will happen, but i know it will... (btw - don't take the language of the haiku too seriously - i was just channeling my inner shakespeare or something!)
